Our History

Oakwood Car Care has proudly served Huntington Station, New York, and the surrounding areas for over 70 years. Although we’ve grown and changed since opening in 1953, one thing remains the same: our commitment to our customers.

From Douglaston to Huntington

Our story starts with Joseph Colamussi Sr. and his wife Amelia, who opened Joe’s Friendly Service in 1953 in Douglaston, New York. They grew their business and opened their first store — the Oakwood Sinclair Service Station — soon after. By 1963, Esso was modernizing their stations, including the one next door to Joe and Amelia. They took over the 3-bay facility. After the growth of the business came the growth of their family with Joe Jr., who joined the family shop working after school before becoming a full-time employee during college.

In 1981, Joe Jr. became a full partner. The Colamussis’ sold the Esso station in 1986 to purchase an Exxon station in Huntington Station, where Joe Jr. could be closer to his young and growing family. Joe Sr. has since retired, but Oakwood Car Care continues to provide exceptional service from our new facility. In 1993, we moved into a new facility on the corner of Park Avenue and Broadway, and we’ve loved building our business in this community. Then, they’ll provide and walk you through a list of services that’s sure to fix the problem with your vehicle by using their comprehensive understanding of our business. If the services are approved, they’ll give you consistent updates via text, call, video, and picture, so you always know the status of your vehicle. After the service is complete, you’ll be given a full breakdown of all the services performed and have all your questions answered! Along with that, our managers will also give you financing options upon request!
